Our View on Birth Control

Women are fighting for their rights to recieve free birth control. President Obama and current running Republican Mitt Romney have opposing views on the matter. President Obama agrees with the fact that women should be given free coverage of birth control, with no copay at the pharmacy, including the morning after pill. On the other hand, Mitt Romney disagrees with Obama and feels women should vend for themselves in this situation, leaving them in the dust.

Obama:
"Abortion and birth control: Supports abortion rights. Health care law requires contraceptives to be available for free for women enrolled in workplace health plans, including access to morning-after pill, which does not terminate a pregnancy but which some religious conservatives consider tantamount to an abortion pill. Supported requiring girls 16 and under to get a prescription for the morning-after pill, available without a prescription for older women"

vs.

Mitt Romney:
"Abortion and birth control: Opposes abortion rights. Previously supported them. Says state law should guide abortion rights, and Roe v. Wade should be reversed by a future Supreme Court ruling. But says Roe v. Wade is law of the land until that happens and should not be challenged by federal legislation seeking to overturn abortion rights affirmed by that court decision. "So I would live within the law, within the Constitution as I understand it, without creating a constitutional crisis. But I do believe Roe v. Wade should be reversed to allow states to make that decision." Said he would end federal aid to Planned Parenthood"

Hi my name is Laura Meekins and I believe that women should receive full coverage for birth control. Without the free coverage of birth control the population will increase for those who can not afford or support themselves or even a family to provide for. Women use birth control for many reasons other then contraceptive purposes. I have read up on the religious views for this topic and it has stated that organizations such as various religious groups do not support the free birth control policy. For reasons including their advocation of abstinence. I think that they should support the birth control policy since these organizations are not the ones paying the coverage, but our insurers are. Not every one has the same religious views and beliefs about life and this topic. Every women should be able to have the option of having full coverage birth control regardless of all the views in the world.

Hi, My name is Melissa Ganem and I currently believe that women should be able to obtain free birth control. This is a controversial topic because people do not want to pay higher taxes for other peoples actions and decisions, but birth control is a right that all women should have access to. Birth control is mainly thought upon as a preventative medicine which makes a considerable difference in the rate of unwanted childbirths, but only if everyone could afford it. For those of lower income birth control is not an option and to support themselves, or even a family is not affordable. With having free birth control there will be a rise in taxes, but the price would be much less than that of all costs of unwanted pregnancies and all the expenses that follow. Regardless of income level all women should have access to preventative measures to protect themselves but can't afford the hefty price that follows along. If free birth control is available the United States Government wouldn't have to pay for a mother's healthcare because she cannot afford it,they wouldn't have to pay for the birth of the baby or its medical costs, and the government wouldn't need to provide food stamps to purchase items for the baby. I see all of this as a greater cost to the state and if free birth control was available it may eliminate some unemployment, or decrease the amount of food stamps issued. In the long run we would have less unwanted childbirths, practice safer sex, and paying into healthcare insurance would be less.

I am Christina and I currently believe women should be granted the right to free birth control. This issue is huge in the election right now as it poses such controversy. Many women do not have the measures of affording birth control as it is an added expense. This can lead to unwanted pregnancy for many. The government would then have to come in and put even more of our taxes to health care, food stamps and EBT. This can be a viscous cycle for many hard workers. Sure, birth control is 99.9% effective, leaving a little room for unwanted pregnancy, but this can certainly help our economy more than not if women were granted free birth control. The other issue that comes into this is the morning after pill be supported at the pharmacy also. This topic is much more controversial and can go either way. However, each and every woman should have their right to chose what they do with their body!
